Fun Family Session!

Lowdermilk Park is one of our favorite places to shoot in Naples.  The park offers the perfect combination of beach, lake, and trees which gives us plenty of options regardless of lighting.  For this shoot, the family had a larger portrait in mind to go on a wall with some other family photos.  To keep everything consistent, we decided to go with some more traditional poses.  Everyone was natural and relaxed, so the posing worked well and I am excited to get the prints back so the family can get this Mother's Day present on the wall!  We had a lot of fun shooting this family session and hope we get the chance to work with these guys again!

5 tips for looking great in your photos!

Whether you are out with friends and someone whips out a camera, or you’re trying to capture the perfect profile pic, or posing in your best friend’s wedding, there are some easy steps you can take to make sure you look your best.

  1. Don’t say cheese!  All you’ll get is a cheesy grin.  Instead, just try to relax and think of something positive.  It may sound cliché, but you’ll see better results if you think of something that you enjoy or makes you happy.

  2. Avoid head on collisions with the camera.  Pointing your body toward the camera will make you look wider than you really are (or at least wider than you think you are!).  A few people can pull off the “straight on” look, but the rest of us will find more flattering results if we keep our bodies turned at a slight angle.

  3. Keep your wardrobe simple.  It’s ok to be bold, but contrasting colors, strong patterns, or brand designs can be distracting.  Too much jewelry can have the same effect.  Whoever is behind the camera wants to capture who you are…don’t let your wardrobe get in the way!

  4. Think in triangles.  The shape of a triangle has a strong subconscious effect.  Look for ways to position your arms (for example, place one hand on your hip), or legs so they form a triangle.  The same is true for posing groups.  Rather than all forming a straight line, look for ways to organize yourselves into a triangular shape.

  5. Enjoy yourself!  Ok…that may not sound like a hot tip, but think about it.  One of the greatest gifts you have is your memories.  The sole purpose of the camera is to help preserve those moments forever.  When you sit down fifteen years from now to look at the photos you took today, what do you want to see?  Do your best to enjoy the moment so you don’t end up staring at an image of yourself with that “I hate having my picture taken” face.
