The Mary Kay Sessions

Last week, Katie and I had the opportunity to spend some time at the local Mary Kay studio.  The ladies were so much fun to work with and everyone looked great!  At the end of the night, we held a drawing for a free family session.

As we were setting up our lighting, Katie and I could hear the "magic" happening in the next room. I listened as the consultants taught the women how to apply the products.  Instead of focusing on make-up and lip gloss, the consultants challenged the ladies in the room to develop confidence and poise.  As I thought about this on our ride back to North Naples, I realized that our goal as photographers is right in line with Mary Kay's vision.  We are not in business just to make nice images, but to bring out the very best in people.

Some of the women who came in told us that they usually hate having their picture taken. We hear this quite often, so we keep our sessions fun and exciting and have no problem bringing out the "real" smiles and expressions that show true personality.  Once these women saw how great their images were looking on the back of my camera, they were able to loosen up and have a blast.  That is one of the most rewarding moments for me as a photographer because I know I am preserving memories that will last for generations.

Here are a couple of shots from the session:
